Supervisor Yoder Speaks to Rotarians

Posted

Washington County Supervisor Robert Yoder, who represents Kalona and Supervisor District 3, informed Kalona Rotarians Tuesday, Jan. 17, about the discussion regarding the relocation of county courthouse offices to either the current Federation Bank building in downtown Washington or the county-owned Orchard Hill Complex just outside of the city.

Yoder said he favors the Federation Bank building as it is handicapped accessible and is in the center of town close to the banks, etc.  He said the alternative is to move to the Orchard Hill location and build a new facility, which he said would be far more costly and could create traffic congestion in that area.

Yoder commended Kalona area businesses and residents for making Kalona a center welcoming growth and new people and businesses.

He also spoke about the need to find another county attorney as John Gish will leave on Jan. 29 for a position in the state attorney general’s office. If one is appointed, he or she would serve until the 2024 general election when the county attorney would be elected for the remaining 2 years on the present term.  After that, the attorney would be elected to serve a 4-year term. Someone could petition to force an election sooner.

Don Yoder was program chair.

On Jan. 24, Mark Beatty has Tom Taylor, Director of Environmental Health at Washington County Hospital, scheduled to present the program.

On Jan. 31, Derek Beckman is scheduled to speak on what is happening at the Washington County YMCA centers in Kalona, Washington and Wellman.

On Feb. 7 Gerry Beeler has invited Trevor Sherping and Olivia Kahler of the Kalona Public Library to give the program.

The Kalona Rotary Club meets in the CBI Bank & Trust community room at noon every Thursday.  Guests are welcome.
