Avoiding back-to-back losses to start the season, the Ravens (1-1) broke into the win column with a strong 4-0 home victory over Washington (0-3) on April 8.

This was Hillcrest’s first win over Washington since 2021, which was also a shutout performance.

Hillcrest wasted little time to take control. Three minutes into the game, spring multi-sport athlete Rowan Miller scored Hillcrest’s first goal of the season, assisted by Jesse Blossom, to put the Ravens in front.

Miller wasn’t done yet. With 16 minutes left before the half the standout junior took the opportunity of the Washington goalkeeper batting the ball away to send the ball right back into the net to cement a two-goal performance.

Going up by three in the first half, 11 minutes later it was a Mason to Mason connection as Mason Bender scored his first goal of the year off a pass from Mason Helmuth.

The lone goal in the second half was scored by Helmuth which was assisted by Miller. It was a clean sheet for Hillcrest’s goalkeepers as both seniors Kyle Neuschwander and Andrew Kauffman both spent time in goal. Kauffman recorded one save.

Hillcrest 6, WACO 2

Carrying their momentum from one game to another, it was another winning effort for the Ravens (2-1) at home when they faced off against WACO (2-3) last Thursday.

It was another fast start for Hillcrest as Mason Helmuth got the Ravens on the board five minutes into the game courtesy of a header off a pass from Rowan Miller.

Miller was the next goalscorer, assisted by Mason Bender, to double Hillcrest’s lead but WACO responded with a goal of their own to trail 2-1 at the half.

In the second half Seth Ours scored his first and second goals of the season to give the Ravens a 4-1 lead. WACO again managed to score to decrease its deficit to two, but Hillcrest responded in a big way.

Extinguishing the hopes of a comeback, the Ravens scored two more goals, one from Isaac Birkey and Helmuth notching his second goal of the game.

With six goals in total the Ravens reached a new season high. Senior goalkeeper Kyle Neuschwander recorded five saves for Hillcrest.

Up next for Hillcrest (2-1) is a home contest against West Liberty (4-0) on April 17.
