Shane named Executive Director for JoCo Board of Supervisors

IOWA CITY

Erin Shane, who had been the interim auditor in Johnson County, was appointed as the new Board of Supervisors Executive Director during the board’s November 26 formal session.

Shane’s appointment is another in a series of key changes in Johnson County leadership.

The county is also seeing changes in the lead Auditor position and Human Resources Director, in addition to newly elected Mandi Remington coming on as a new Supervisor at the start of 2025.

Shane, formerly a project manager and associate director of University of Iowa Parking & Transportation, was appointed as Johnson County Deputy Auditor in June 2023. She took the lead earlier this year when former auditor Travis Weipert stepped down for personal health reasons.

Instead of going on the ballot in November to replace Weipert, Shane instead was chosen for the Board’s Executive Director position after former Exec Director Guillermo Morales was fired in September by a split 3-2 vote.

Winning election as County Auditor was Julie Persons, the current mayor of Swisher.

FY26 Budget

Budget season is here.

The first of a number of budget work sessions for the Board of Supervisors is scheduled for December 9. The budgeting process for Fiscal Year 2026, which begins July 1, 2025, includes budget sessions over the next three months.

The final FY26 budget is set to be approved in April 2025, following two or three work sessions in which the Board will cut down proposed expenses and another session in which the FY26 tax ask is presented.

The FY25 budget was approved last spring with $169.8 million in expenditures.

Board Action

The Board approved a $100,000 Social Services emergency grant with United Action for Youth for its transitional living program.

The Board approved the Johnson County Weed Commissioner’s 2025 certification and annual report.

Next meeting:

The Board’s next formal session is at 9 a.m. December 5.
