The River Valley Conference Board of Control voted unanimously to approve Beckman Catholic and Maquoketa as conference members on Wednesday, October 6.
The Blazers and Cardinals will join the RVC for the 2022-23 school year, the same year that North Cedar will leave the RVC for the Tri-Rivers Conference.
“We look forward to working with them as they join what we consider a top conference in the state,” RVC commissioner Tim Lambert said.
Beckman Catholic currently has an enrollment of 272 students in the high school while Maquoketa had 477 students in grades 9-12 last year.
The North and South Divisions of the RVC have each had seven schools since the addition of Anamosa in 2018.
“The RVC is still in discussion of the overall structure with the North and South divisions,” said Mid-Prairie activities director Tyler Hotz.
Mid-Prairie has been a member of the River Valley Conference since it was founded in 2013.
“We are excited for the additional competition and the prospect of opening up our ability to schedule teams closer and reducing travel times,” Hotz said.
