Russell Francis Chorpening Jr. was born March 27, 1945, in Washington, Iowa, the son of Russell Sr. and Zitta (Bush) Chorpening. He attended West Chester School and International Bible College in San Antonio, Texas.

On April 4, 1969, Russell was united in marriage to Lydia Borntrager in Kalona. Russell served in the National Guard for six years. They lived in Sarasota, Florida, Kirksville, Missouri, San Antonio, Texas, Philippines, Shell Lake, Wisconsin, until moving back to Kalona.

Russell farmed, built cabinets, and helped in the missionary field. He enjoyed John Deere tractors, reading, baseball and hunting. Russell passed away Monday, Jan. 17, 2022, at Pleasantview Home at the age of 76.

Russell is survived by three daughters: Bonita (Jerry) Jerome of Mound, Minnesota, Valencia (Ken) Peters of Knoxville, Tennessee, and Lacinda (Chris) Damsgarel of Maple Grove, Minnesota; 10 grandchildren; a brother: Richard Chorpening; two sisters: Angela McKune and Arleen Wheeler.

He was preceded in death by his wife: Lydia; parents; a sister: Wilda Reschly; two brothers: Russell Chorpening Jr (the 1st) and David Chorpening; two brothers-in-law: Robert Wheeler and Gary McKune; and sister-in-law: Anne Chropening.

A celebration of life memorial service will be held at a later date.
