La Chiva Loca resumed serving its Mexican and American fare on Tuesday, July 26 after being closed for nine days.
A break-in on July 17 incapacitated the restaurant by destroying the point-of-sale system and damaging other equipment, as well as the new bar in the basement.
In a show of support, fellow Riverside restaurant Murphy’s Bar and Grill donated a portion of their sales on July 19 to speed La Chiva Loca’s return to business. The Riverside community flocked to the eatery in high numbers, and Murphy’s ran out of food and had to close their kitchen two hours early.
“I know Riverside’s always got my back. They’re always very supportive through every crisis that we’ve been through,” La Chiva Loca co-owner Karen Cabrera said.
La Chiva Loca was not the only Riverside business broken into recently. Next door, Duffey Cycles reported forced entry and damage just minutes later the same morning.
The case remains under investigation. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office released two photos of a possible suspect, which can be viewed online at thenews-ia.com. Contact the Washington County Communications Center at 319-653-2017 if you have information concerning the break-ins or if you know the identity of the person in the photographs.
