At the Mid-Prairie school board meeting on Monday, April 24, the school honored four staff members who are retiring after the school year ends. The four staff members honored with plaques were Jill Nisly (Paraprofessional), Lois Dehogues (Paraprofessional), Diane Miller (Third Grade Teacher), and Melody Black (Kindergarten Teacher).
Three staff members were not able to attend the meeting but are also retiring at the end of the school year: Wendy Caszatt-Allen (Fifth Grade Teacher), Joyce Billups (Kindergarten Teacher), and Nora Kehoe (Guidance Counselor).
The Mid-Prairie community building was absolutely packed with family members, community members, and staff in celebration of the four teachers and shared words of encouragement. Between the four, 92 total years was spent within the district. Nisly had 14 years, Dehogues had 21, Miller 25 and Black 32.
Many different people had nice testimonials for the four teachers with many of teary eyes in the audience, testifying to their dedication and loyalty to the students of Mid-Prairie.
In a moment of togetherness, almost everyone sang along with the Mid-Prairie East and West Elementary vocal music teacher, Heather Herschberger, during the meeting.
After the three staff members received recognition, there was a break in the school board meeting to socialize and eat cookies before the meeting came back in session.
