With 1,601 documents recorded for the fiscal 2020-21 quarter, Washington County’s recorder’s office reflects the national trend of increased real estate activity.
The documents record is the highest since 2015, Recorder Jo Greiner told the supervisors on Tuesday, July 13. Total recording fees amounted to $34,368. With the addition of revenue tax, vital records, permits copy fees, passports and sales/use tax, total revenue was $140,323. Quarterly real estate transactions, including deeds and mortgages, totaled $24,795.80.
Of the total revenue amount, $113,030 was for passports.
“We have had a lot of questions about passports,” said Greiner.
By contrast, the county’s general assistance payments for the same period were “very low,” said director Sue Rich, with an outlay of $757.61 for fiscal 2020-21 to date, compared to $10,0756.40 for 2019-20. The change may relate to steps in containing the COVID-19 pandemic, it was noted.
For the Veterans Affairs, the total for the quarter was $2,080.26, most of which, $514.49 was for burial assistance that, for the year, now totals $1,365.77.
Rich also provided information about assistance throughout all 99 counties that totaled $5,745,000, excluding medical care. She added that the Veterans Affairs will have a booth at the coming county fair.
Auditor Dan Widmer reported that the quarterly for his office “was pretty typical” with a total of $1,995 collected in fees.
In other business, the board:
• approved renewing the lease with Hillcrest Family Services for office space in Building 3 at the county-owned Orchard Hill Complex for $2,58.67 from July 1, 2021 to June 30, 2022; and
• recognized eight employees for long-term service that, all together, amounts to 222 years of service. They are Michael Bruegge, secondary roads, 40 years; J.P. Vansickle, secondary roads, 35 years; Susie Beatty, Public Health, 30 years; Lyle Thomas, secondary roads, 27 years; Michelle Hyman, auditor’s office, 25 years; Jared Schneider, sheriff’s office 25 years; Karla Davis, sheriff’s office, 20 years and Jennifer Weidman, public health, 20 years.
