Going on the road for a weekend tournament hosted by the HLV-TC Warriors, the Ravens split a pair of games as they defeated Baxter, 11-1, but fell to HLV-TC, 13-5.
Through four innings against Bazter (1-8), the Ravens built up a 9-1 lead. In the fifth they added two more runs to the score to clinch their victory.
Hillcrest eighth grader Ella Mize was the winning pitcher for Hillcrest as she pitched in four innings to end with five strikeouts. Fellow eighth grader Lyla Genkinger pitched in one inning and struck out one.
The Ravens totaled 11 hits on offense with Malia Yoder, Delaney Shaw, Annika Schrock, and Marryn Boshart all securing two hits each. Yoder led the team in RBIs with three.
Against HLV-TC (7-1), the Ravens found themselves trailing 10-2 after four innings played. Hillcrest battled back in the fifth with three runs to cut its deficit to five but the Warriors responded with three runs of their own in the sixth to end the game in their favor.
Yoder pitched all six innings for Hillcrest as the senior ended with seven strikeouts while allowing two walks. Yoder and Shaw led Hillcrest on offense with three hits each. Shaw also had three RBIs.
Columbus 14, Hillcrest 12
Emerging victorious from a high scoring conference game that went to a extra inning was Columbus (5-2) as they hosted and defeated Hillcrest last Thursday.
Through six innings both teams were knotted up at 9-9. In the seventh Hillcrest scored three runs to take the lead but the Wildcats matched with three runs of their own.
In the extra eighth inning Hillcrest was shut out in the top of the inning and Columbus scored twice to earn their first win over the Ravens since 2023.
Malia Yoder went the distance for Hillcrest as she ended with eight strikeouts while allowing six walks. The standout senior also led the team with three RBIs on two hits.
Mediapolis 11, Hillcrest 0
The Bulldogs (5-2) came to town and left with a non-conference shutout victory over Hillcrest last Friday.
After building up a 5-0 lead through three innings, Mediapolis ended the game early with six runs in the fourth. Their starting pitcher, junior Maddy Carter, finished with five strikeouts.
Eighth grade pitcher Ella Mize pitched all four innings for the Ravens as he struck out three.
Van Buren County 9, Hillcrest 2
Scoring in every inning except for two, Van Buren County (2-5) picked up a road victory over Hillcrest last Monday.
The Warriors took a 6-1 advantage after four innings played and then added two more runs to their lead in the top of the fifth. The bottom of the inning saw Hillcrest score its second run, but were shutout for the final two innings.
Malia Yoder pitched all seven innings for Hillcrest and ended with seven strikeouts.
Up next for Hillcrest (3-6) is a road matchup against Belle Plaine (0-12) on June 12.
