KALONA

After falling at home to Hillcrest earlier in the season, Pekin aimed to even the score, but the Ravens came away victorious yet again to sweep the Panthers for the first time in series history.

Earning their fourth home win of the season, the Ravens (9-8, SEISC 7-7) soared to a 40-32 victory over the Panthers (7-10, 5-9) on Jan. 28.

Through three quarters Hillcrest built up a seven-point advantage and this proved to be too tall of a hurdle for Pekin to overcome in the fourth despite scoring a quarter high 12 points in the final frame.

A near double double night for Malia Yoder, the senior led the Ravens with a team high 15 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Yoder also led the team in steals (4) and assists (4). Fellow senior Delaney Shaw tied for the team high in rebounds with 10 along with Niva Helmuth.

Hillcrest 57, Louisa-Muscatine 53

Extending their winning streak to five in a row (the longest of the season), the Ravens (10-8, SEISC 8-7) went on the road and picked up a conference victory over Louisa-Muscatine (5-13, 5-10) on Jan. 25.

This is the first time since 2019 Hillcrest has gotten the better of the Falcons with this win snapping a eight-game losing streak against L-M. This victory also propelled the Ravens to its 10th win, earning their first double digit win season since the 2018-19 season.

It was a battle through and through between these two teams and in the fourth with two minutes left in the game Hillcrest trailed by three. Not giving up the hopes of a comeback, the resilient Ravens rallied with a 7-0 run to overcome the Falcons.

Hillcrest’s dynamic senior-junior duo once again shined for the Ravens as Malia Yoder scored a team high 21 points and Claire Withrow added 18 with her three-pointer breaking giving the Ravens the lead in the fourth .

HLV 47, Hillcrest 43

Playing spoiler on senior night, the HLV Warriors (9-8) went on the road and defeated Hillcrest (10-9) on Feb. 1.

The Warriors stringed together three straight quarters of solid play on both sides of the ball to enter the fourth with an 11-point advantage. Hillcrest made a valiant effort to rally with a quarter high 15-points in the fourth but HLV held firm with its lead to secure the non-conference victory.

Leading the way on senior night with a double double was senior guard Malia Yoder who scored a team high 20 points and nabbed 12 rebounds. Fellow senior Delaney Shaw also impressed with 10 boards of her own.
