After winning its season opener on the road it was time for Hillcrest to test their skills at home as they hosted Cedar Valley Christian in a non-conference matchup and from the opening tip-off to the final buzzer it was all Ravens.
Scoring over 20 points in both the first and second quarter to effectively put the game out of reach at the half, the Ravens (2-0) scored a dominant 69-32 win over CVC (0-2) on Nov. 26.
The Raven’s offense had themselves a night with their final total of 69 being the highest the Hillcrest girls basketball program has scored since their 81 point outing against HLV in 2019.
To begin the game, the Ravens scored 15 straight before the Huskies made their first field goal. It was a total of 21 points in the first quarter for Hillcrest and they carried its momentum into the next quarter by putting up 23 in the second to go into the half with a 25-point lead.
This lead held firm for the rest of the game as Hillcrest picked up their second straight victory of the young season. The Huskies were held to single digits in the scoring department in every quarter except for the second frame.
Doing most of her damage in the first half, it was Malia Yoder who led the Ravens on offense.
It was a 21 point first-half for Yoder as the talented senior led all scorers with 26 points. She also led Hillcrest in assists (9) and steals (8).
Not too far behind Yoder was teammate Claire Withrow. The sharpshooting junior drained five three-pointers to finish with 22-points. She also had seven steals and three assists.
Up next for Hillcrest (2-0) is a home conference matchup against Columbus (1-0) on Dec. 6.
