WASHINGTON
A hearing January 17 in Washington County District Court for Martell Guider on probation violations concluded with an order that the original suspended sentence and probation, issued October 11, 2024, not be revoked at this time. Instead, Guider will remain on probation, but with additional special conditions.
He will reside in a Residential Correction Facility in the 8th Judicial District for 180 days or until maximum benefits are achieved, and until space is available in said correction facility, he will be held in the Washington County Jail. When space is available, the local sheriff’s department will transport him to it.
He also “is presumed to be able to pay the entire amount of restitution” and has not requested a hearing on it.
Following the decision Friday, all bonds were exonerated, and warrants withdrawn. The order was made by presiding Judge Shawn Showers.
The state was represented by Assistant County Attorney Shane McChurch and Guider by Attorney Nathan Peterson (on behalf of Attorney Eric Tindal).
Guider, 36, of Spencer, was found guilty of sexual exploitation of a minor in August 2024 following inappropriate behavior at Pleasantview in Kalona, where he was working as a nursing assistant employed by Shiftkey, a provider of workers for health care facilities. He was sentenced to a maximum of 25 years, which was suspended, and he was placed on probation for five years under the Department of Correctional Services. He also had to comply with sex registry requirements. He was arrested Jan. 4 for probation violations.
