Pathway 50,  Tri-State 37

Pathway kicked off its conference season Tuesday night, November 30th at home against the Tri-State Huskies.

Both teams traded leads early, before Tri-State went on top, 16-11 with two minutes gone by in the second period. Pathway finished the quarter with an 11-5 run to take a 22-19 lead into the locker room.

Led by 16 second half points from senior Tanner Miller, Pathway was able to extend the lead to 36-28 after three quarters of play.  The Pathway lead ballooned to 16 at 48-32 with two minutes to play, helping the Panthers cruise to a 50-37 win.

Miller led the Panther scoring finishing with 16 points, all in the second half, to go along with 8 rebounds, 3 steals, and 4 assists.  Senior guard Jackson Gehman scored 15 while adding 6 rebounds and 3 assists.  Senior forward Micah Hostetler scored 8 points, and pulled down 8 boards to go with 2 assists and 2 steals.  Junior forward Lucas Yutzy scored 7, and sophomore Blayde Lybarger rounded out the Panther scoring with 4.  Lybarger ripped down a team high 12 rebounds.

Coach Aaron Gingerich commented, "It was great to see things start to click in the third quarter.  Our defensive effort was better in the second half which led to some easy baskets.  Offensively we are playing together and moving the ball which is fun to see."

Pathway moves to 2-2 overall and 1-0 in the NICC.

 Des Moines 49, Pathway 45

Pathway hosted a strong Des Moines Warriors team for a non-conference matchup on Friday night, December 3rd.

The Panthers jumped out to a 17-14 advantage after a quarter of play and used a 13-4 second quarter spurt to lead the Warriors 30-19 at the break.  Pathway built their lead to 33-19 on a Blayde Lybarger three pointer to start the second half, but Des Moines made their move with five minutes to go in the third, closing the quarter on a 19-4 run to lead 38-37 heading into the final period.

The teams traded baskets to start the fourth quarter, but the Warriors were able to pull away late, gaining an 8 point advantage, before winning by a final score of 49-45.

Jackson Gehman led the Panthers with 15 points, 4 assists, 5 steals, and 4 rebounds.  Tanner Miller and Blayde Lybarger each scored 11 points.  Miller pulled down 5 rebounds.  Lucas Yutzy scored 6, and Micah Hostetler rounded out the Panther scoring with a basket.

Hostetler pulled down a team high 8 rebounds to go along with 2 assists.

Coach Aaron Gingerich commented, "I loved the effort and concentration each player played with.  The first half was the best basketball we have played this season.  We have been focusing on limiting our turnovers and to only have 4 at the half was a big improvement.  There were a lot of good moments to build on tonight."

Pathway falls to 2-3 overall and remains at 1-0 in the NICC.
