Republicans have been working on legislation intended to instill patriotism in K-12 students by having them sing the National Anthem daily. I agree completely that we need to renew students’ understanding of basic civics and why it matters. Patriotism is so much more than performing a ritual.
It's been a little saddening to see the Republican Party, writ-large, let Lady Liberty down. When the chips were down, when Trump and Co. tried to stop the peaceful transfer of power and then tried to disenfranchise thousands of Democratic voters by using phony electors, instead of facing the truth, seeking redemption, and cleaning house, Republicans JUSTIFIED the behavior.
That is why some find it a little grating to see these Sunny Day Patriots criticizing anyone else's patriotism.
