Lone Tree junior Arlie Lorack struck out a school-record 18 batters as the Lady Lions opened the season with a 9-2 win over English Valleys.

“Arlie pitched a great game,” Lone Tree head coach Reid Kaalberg said. “Arlie put in a ton of time in the offseason working on her spins and working on moving the ball. I’m very proud of her tonight.

Lorack allowed two runs on just two hits and seven walks over seven innings.

She faced 30 batters and only five were able to put the ball in play.

Ellen Carrow drove in two runs with a single, followed by a 2-RBI double from Alex Dautremont during a five-run inning, which put Lone Tree ahead 8-0 after four.

“Our offense came out and was swinging the bat,” Kaalberg said. “We had six girls with at least one hit on the night.”

Lorack, Dautremont, Hogan Eden, and Avery Grover each had two hits.

Carrow and Eden each stole two bases for Lone Tree.

“Our defense also made zero errors which is something that we’ve been spending a lot of time on, so it was nice to see that,” Kaalberg said.

“All of these girls look forward to coming to practice every single day and that makes coaching them easy. We are excited for the busy week we have left and we are hoping to continue to get better each day.”

Lone Tree was in action again on Tuesday night, hosting Columbus. The Lady Lions travel to Highland for a conference matchup on Thursday, May 27.
