During a brief meeting on Jan. 11, the Lone Tree school board met with two main items up for approval: personnel changes and an Updated Revenue Purpose Statement (RPS). Both were unanimously approved.
The agenda for the special session originally included only the updated RPS, but personnel was added as a last-minute addition.
The updated RPS is an extension of the already agreed upon statement for 2031 to 2051. It is not an increase of spending, but rather a description of how the school district intends to use statewide sales tax revenue.
As Iowa law requires that each school district ask the voters to approve the RPS, an election vote on the matter is planned for Tuesday, March 7, 2023.
Regarding personnel changes, the board approved three new hires: Greg Schooley (assistant varsity baseball coach), Chadwick Crawford (high school English), and Sheila Tharp (business manager). They also approved the resignation of two teachers who will leave at the end of the school year: Tiffany Regan (Elementary instructional coach, TAG, head cross country) and Caitlin Rafter (kindergarten).
The next school board meeting will be held at the Lone Tree Junior/Senior High School in the school library on Wednesday, Jan. 18, at 6:30 p.m.
