Lone Tree was hoping to win back-to-back games to end the year but those hopes were dashed by WACO. The Lions were defeated by the Warriors in a home conference game, 61-35, on December 20.

WACO senior Ellah Kissel had a game-high 22 points while fellow WACO senior was the second leading scorer with 17 points.

The Warriors are the 2nd placed team in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference and after the loss the Lions drop to 2-3 in conference play.

The Lions were able to keep pace with the Warriors through three quarters, but it was the fourth quarter where WACO was able to definitively pull away from Lone Tree.

Going into the final frame of the game trailing 40-30 the Lions found themselves on the wrong end of a 21-5 run.

The 21  points WACO scored in the last frame was their quarter high and the five points Lone Tree scored in the same frame was their quarter low.

Lone Tree freshman Ava Christofferson came off the bench and ended up being the leading scorer of the night, with eight points. Those were her first points scored this season. Christofferson also recorded two assists and cashed in two shots beyond the three-point arc.

The second leading scorer for Lone Tree was freshman Alyson Ford, with seven points. Ford secured three rebounds and split her two attempted free throws, with one make and one miss.

As December finally comes to an end the New Year is fast approaching and it marks the start of a holiday break for Lone Tree. The Lions (6-5) will come back after their break and be on the road when they face conference opponent Wapello (3-5) on January 3.

After that game there will be a short turnaround because in the same week Lone Tree will stay home to battle undefeated Winfield-Mt Union (10-0), who are in first place in the conference standings, on January 6.
