After giving up 12 runs in an inning on Thursday, Lone Tree was on the right side of the big inning on Friday, scoring 11 times in the second inning of a 12-0 win over Hillcrest.
Alex Dautremont led off the big inning with a line drive double to right field. Avery Grover drove in the first two runs of the game with a single, and Arlie Lorack made it 7-0 with a two-run double to left.
“We played well tonight, bouncing back from the night before,” Lone Tree coach Reid Kaalberg said.
Kayleigh Rundlett had the Lady Lions’ lone hit against Highland and led Lone Tree with two hits on Friday.
After Thursday’s loss, Kaalberg told his team there would be some bumps along the way as the program works to reach the next level.
“That game was a bump in the road, so we needed to respond today and I believe we did that in a big way,” he said. “The girls are truly working hard every day, which makes coming to practice and games so much fun because I know they want to be here and I know they want to get better.”
Ellen Carrow and Hogan Eden each singled and scored during the second inning. Skylar Smith and Lila Bell each drew a walk and scored.
“We have girls in this lineup that have had a great week offensively, so I know they’ll continue to improve,” Kaalbeg said.
Carow scored twice in the second inning, and scored the game-ending run in the fourth after drawing a leadoff walk.
Evelyn Gerber and Esther Hughes had back to back two-out singles in the third inning, but Lorack ended the threat with a strikeout.
Those were the only two hits that Lorack allowed over four innings. She walked one and struck out five.
“Arlie threw well in the circle and our defense continues to get better and better the more we play,” Kaalberg said.
Lone Tree improved to 2-1 with the victory, while the Ravens fell to 0-3.
