LONE TREE

Keeping the momentum going by extending their win streak to four in a row, the Lions (7-8) handled business at home with a 14-3 conference victory over Highland (8-6) on June 24.

Lone Tree kept Highland’s brooms at bay by avoiding the season sweep with this win and it was the third straight game in which they scored in the double digits. This was also the Lion’s first regular season triumph over the Huskies since 2019.

Putting four runs on the board in the first and scoring four more in the second, Lone Tree wasted little time to sprint out to a 8-0 lead after two innings played.

Highland scored its first run in the fourth but the Lions kept their scoring trend going by scoring an additional four runs in the bottom of the inning.

Trailing by 11, the Huskies fought back with two runs in the fifth but it was not enough as Lone Tree scored two runs of its own in the sixth to end the game in its favor.

The senior efforts of Jack Patterson collected the win on the mound for Lone Tree. Patterson pitched in 5.2 innings, allowed six hits, and delivered nine strikeouts.

Both Maddox Jondle and Jacoby Moffitt made some noise on offense for the Lions as they both ended the game with two hits and three RBIs. Owen Eden also brought in three runs.

Calamus-Wheatland 15, Lone Tree 2

Lone Tree (7-10) dropped both games of a double-header against Calamus-Wheatland (7-15) at the University of Iowa’s Duane Banks Stadium on June 25.

Taking the win on the mound in the first game was Cal-Wheat junior Jeremy Anderson. Anderson pitched in four innings, struck out five, gave up two hits, and allowed one walk.

Lone Tree was led on offense by Emmett Burke as the junior tallied a team high two hits. Bringing in a team best two runs was senior Brody Magruder.

The second game saw the Warriors end the game in five innings in their favor. Eighth grader Logan Green took the win on the mound by pitching in three innings, striking out one, giving up two hits, and allowing four walks.

New London 16, Lone Tree 1

The Lions were on the wrong end of an offensive onslaught as they were defeated on the road in four innings against New London (13-9) last Monday.

Lone Tree scored its lone run of the game in the first to take a lead but the Tigers scored five in the bottom of the inning to take command of the contest.

New London then scored a single run in the second, five runs in the third, and five more runs in the fourth to bring the game to an early end.

Up next for Lone Tree (7-12) is a first round playoff matchup against Montezuma (4-12) at Lisbon on July 5.
