Getting the chance to compete in a tournament that featured over 13 teams, the Lady Lions traveled north to put their grappling skills to the test  at the Midland Girls Invitational on Nov. 26.

Lone Tree was represented by six Lady Lions at Midland, with their final team score of 69 placing them 12th in the final standings.

Bettendorf won the team title with a first place score of 195.5. The host school Fort Madison was the runner-up with 171.5 and third place was claimed by West Delaware with 169.5.

The highest placing Lady Lion was Alex Dautremont wrestling in the 140 lbs bracket. The senior went 3-1 to finish as the runner-up.

In order to advance to the first place match, Dautremont won her first three contests. She won by fall in 40 seconds, then by 10-4 decision, and finally once again by fall in 1:42. Her only loss, by fall in 1:01, came against Fort Madison’s Kat Diprima.

Another top three finisher for Lone Tree was Carlee Sexton. Wrestling in the 105 lbs bracket, Sexton went 3-1 to claim third place.

Sexton won her first match by fall in 31 seconds but then suffered her first and only setback of the night in the semifinals when she was defeated by Clinton’s Akemah McClendon by fall in 1:12. Bouncing back from the loss, Sexton won her next two matches by fall (3:43 and 21 seconds) to earn her third place spot on the podium.

Ashlynn Sojka also delivered a strong performance for Lone Tree. Wrestling in the 235 lbs bracket, Sojka went 2-2 to capture fourth place. In her two wins she won both by fall (1:53 and 50 seconds). In the third place match she was defeated by Cascade’s Kiera Turnis by fall in 1:10.

The last Lady Lion to place at Midland was Kayleigh Rundlett. Rundlett, wrestling at 145 lbs, went 3-2 to ultimately place fifth.

Starting the tourney with a win by fall in 44 seconds over Linn-Mar’s Izzie Watts, Rundlett was then defeated in the next round by fall in 3:15 by Midland’s Milee Streets. Not making it back to back losses, Rundlett won her next match by fall in 1:14 over Bettendorf’s Addyson Johnson, but then was defeated in the next round by fall in 1:50 to Fort Madison’s Aubree Bunnell.

In her final match of the tourney, Rundlett made quick work of Northeast’s Clair Brown, winning by fall in 53 seconds to earn the fifth place spot.

Up next for Lone Tree is traveling to Wapello to compete in the Willard Howell Tournament on Dec. 7.
