President Steve Yotty welcomed board members, guests and staff to the annual meeting of the Kalona Cooperative Technology Company (KCTC) Tuesday evening, April 26 in Kalona. Yotty remarked that he believed KCTC is one of the best community-based broadband and fiber optic providers.
KCTC attorney John Pietila, Des Moines, gave an update on the challenges of the telecommunications company and how there are now grants and funds available to help expand broadband services.
General manager Casey Peck gave an update on the growth of services and finances for KCTC. She noted that the OCIO (Office of Public Information Officer) grant projects have been completed including Water’s Edge near Washington and north along Highway 1 from Washington. In addition, KCTC is working on four grant projects for rural Riverside which will be completed in 2023. She added that internal projects have been completed.
Peck presented framed milestone certificates to technician Jason Miller for five years of service and Jocelyn Brenneman of the cleaning staff for 10 years of service. Peck noted that the average length of employment for KCTC staff is 10.8 years. She expressed her appreciation of KCTC staff and of communities served by KCTC.
In her overview of KCTC, Peck reported that the cooperative has had a 10-year growth of 26.6% and she was anticipating continued growth in 2022 and beyond.
Attorney Pietila announced that Luke Horak, Curt Wyse and Keith Troyer had been re-elected to three-year terms on the Board of Directors. Peck thanked community members Andrea Duwa, Mark Beatty, and Chris Swartzendruber who had agreed to also be on the ballot.
Peck and board chairman Steve Yotty both thanked the staff, board and community.
“We are looking forward to all that this year will bring KCTC and our supportive communities,” Peck concluded.
