Kalona City Council approves realtor, equipment purchase

During their regular meeting on August 1, the Kalona City Council approved entering a contract with Kalona Realty, Inc, and broker/owner Hayley Hershberger for the sale of the student-built house on 721 6th Street.  Kalona Realty has agreed to waive all fees associated with their office regarding the sale of the property.  Entering the contract allows the realtor to start staging, photographing, and marketing the property.

The Council also approved the purchase of two new pieces of Public Works equipment: a 2023 John Deere Gator utility vehicle, and an electric sander.  Both would be ordered now and delivered later this fall.  The city wants the new Gator to be ready for use this winter; a blade will have to be purchased separately.  The City expects to continue using the other two Gators it currently owns.  The sander will allow the City to see how the electric type will work with its other equipment.  The City currently owns two gas units and a truck with a sander on it.

In addition to the above actions, the City Council approved the final payment with retainage for DeLong Construction for the sanitary sewer extension (6th Street) project and approved the annual Iowa Department of Transportation Street Finance report.

The Council set a Work Session for August 15 at 6 p.m., and a Public Hearing for Conditional Use Agreement on August 15 at 7 p.m.
