Chairperson Sullivan called the Johnson County Board of Supervisors to order in the Johnson County Health and Human Services Boardroom at 9:02 a.m. Members present: V Fixmer-Oraiz*, Jon Green, Lisa Green-Douglass, and Rod Sullivan. Members absent: Royceann Porter.

GUN VIOLENCE AWARENESS DAY
JUNE 7, 2024
Summary: Every day, more than 120 Americans are killed by gun violence and more than 200 are shot and wounded, with an average of more than 48,000-gun homicides every year. Board Action: Proclaim June 7, 2024, to be Gun Violence Awareness Day in Johnson County, Iowa. We encourage everyone to honor and remember all victims and survivors of gun violence, to support their local communities’ efforts to prevent the tragic effects of gun violence and declare that we as a country must do more to end this public health crisis. Motion by Green-Douglass, second by Green, to approve Proclamation No. 06-06-24-01. The following persons spoke: Johnson County Community Violence Prevention Coordinator Jessica Lang, County Sheriff Brad Kunkel, Moms Demand Action Representative Temple Hiatt, and Moms Demand Action Representative Monica Maloney-Mitros.

PRIDE MONTH
JUNE 2024
Summary: June is recognized across the nation as Pride Month, a time when people come together to celebrate the diversity, resilience, and achievements of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) individuals. Board Action: Proclaim the month of June 2024 to be Pride Month and encourage Johnson County residents to join in celebrating the diversity and contributions of the LGBTQ+ community, and to work towards creating a more inclusive and equitable society. Motion by Green, second by Green-Douglass, to approve Proclamation No. 06-06-24-02. Iowa City Pride Board President Joe Reilly and County Recorder Kim Painter spoke.

Motion by Green, second by Green-Douglass, to approve the 2024 Youth Empowered to Serve (YES!) Agreement with Neighborhood Centers of Johnson County in an amount not to exceed $33,000.
Motion by Green-Douglass, second by Green, to approve the proposal with Axiom Consultants, LLC, Iowa City in an amount of $4,700, plus provisions for additional hourly charges, for structural assessment and report on condition of certain property being considered for acquisition.
Motion by Green-Douglass, second by Green, to approve the proposed Johnson County Ordinance Authorizing Director of the Johnson County Ambulance Service to Bill for Services and Collect Unpaid Amounts Due from Patients on second consideration.
