IOWA CITY
Johnson County is considering a $1.1 million expansion at its fleet shop on Melrose Avenue, expanding the space for vehicles being serviced.
The Board of Supervisors is expected to vote Thursday on a $66,400 agreement with Vantage Architects, an Iowa-based firm that came up with three expansion proposals for the county.
County officials are in favor of expanding the fleet shop to three bays for vehicles with room for a small office included in one of the bays.
“It’s a really good proposal,” said Dave Curtis, Johnson County Facilities Manager.
An increasing number of vehicles in the Sheriff’s Department and Ambulance Department is among the growing needs for the fleet shop, which is located near the Johnson County Historic Poor Farm.
The expansion would be included in requests for the Fiscal Year 2026 budget, Curtis said.
Public Hearings
A public hearing for the fall budget amendment is set for 9 a.m. Thursday.
More than $6 million in additional expenditures includes $2.9 million for the purchase and installation of the county’s Workday computer software and $420,000 for ambulance personnel.
The Board also set 5:30 p.m. Nov. 14 as the monthly evening formal session for zoning and platting applications, and public hearings.
