Jarold (Jerry) C. Miller

Jarold (Jerry) C. Miller, 79, of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, died Friday, Oct. 29, 2021, following a brief illness of cancer.   

He was born on July 7, 1942, in Washington, Iowa, the firstborn child of John Claude and Maxine (Yoder) Miller.

Jarold attended Grandview country school through 8th grade and graduated from Wellman High School in 1960.   During his senior year in high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy Reserves.   Jarold proudly served our country for eight years including many overseas assignments and several tours in Vietnam.

On March 22, 1975, Jarold married Linda Lee Enfield and became the father of three children, Rhonda, Ronald and Scott Simpson.   Linda preceded him in death in 2003.   

Jarold spent his working career as the assistant laundry manager for the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City.   During his career he helped develop innovative bar-coding programs for the laundry service and worked as a laundry consultant after retiring from U of I.

After retirement Jerry, moved to Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, where he met and married Mary Ann Scruggs.  They have had a beautiful loving relationship for the last 10 years.    

Jerry loved playing golf and making new friends on and off the golf course.  He was an avid Hawkeye fan and a long time season ticket holder for Iowa football games. Jerry was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.   He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include his wife: Ann; his children: Rhonda Simpson, Ronald Simpson, Scott Simpson, and Mary Jo (Paul) Burrroughs; granddaughters: Bobbi Jo (Ben) Miller, Heather( Ryan) Robbins, and Amanda(Bret) Greiner; brothers: Jim Miller, Duane (Bev) Miller and Dean (Dorothy) Miller; and special friend and brother in law: C.W. Miller;  and many nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren.

Jarold was preceded in death by his parents; his wife: Linda; brother: David; and sister: Claudine.

Jerry’s family would like to thank everyone for the many acts of kindness and support shown to them during this time of loss.

A memorial service will be held on Nov. 13, 2021, at Village Church of Christ, Hot Spring Village, Arkansas.   Memorial gifts can be made to the Church of Christ.  A second memorial service will be held at the Amvets in Richmond, Iowa on Nov. 26.  Memories will be shared beginning at 11:30 a.m., prior to the Hawkeye game.  Game day attire is encouraged.  Memorial gifts in Jarold’s honor may be given to The Stead Family Children’s Hospital.
