Is Mid-Prairie prepared for a mass casualty event?

In light of recent school shootings I have to wonder how well prepared the Mid-Prairie school district is prepared for a mass casualty event? I met last year with a few district leaders and one thing was definitely clear from the very get go, they are not well prepared at all and do not take the threat as seriously as they should. I brought up multiple points and offered very real suggestions and scenarios and was essentially scoffed at by leadership.

My biggest impression was that there is no money or desire to fortify and prepare for such an occasion. Oddly enough they can spend money on things that do not improve learning, school safety, or efficiency in managing the property correctly. If we can spend money on extracurricular activities and elective comforts, I certainly think we can find some money in the budget for mass casualty events. It is never a necessity until it becomes reality. At that point it is too late.

I am tired of prayers and condolences after the fact, they change nothing. I am hopeful for a more proactive and serious approach to school safety but based on my talk with officials I am not going to hold my breath. The school is very closed off to outside expertise being injected into their tight knit culture.

For now, I will continue to carry medical equipment and teach my kids what to do in the event of a mass casualty incident because it is quite clear the school is not going to provide much help.
