Ethan Paisley scored on a passed ball with two outs in the seventh to give Highland a 2-1 walk-off win over Keota in the Huskies’ first game of the season.

Chase Schultz allowed a run on five hits and one walk over seven innings. He struck out 14 batters to earn the opening day victory.

“It was a heck of a game to start the season, with two of the best in Southeast Iowa going at it on the mound,” said Highland coach Seth Milledge, who picked up his his 100th victory as a head coach of the Huskies on Monday.

“Our guys knew it was going to be a tough one and they stayed the course and found a way to end the game on top.”

Keota senior Colten Clarahan gave up just one hit and three walks, while striking out 12 batters over 5 1/3 innings.

The Eagles scored the game’s first run in the sixth inning, but Brenton Bonebrake drew a leadoff walk in the seventh and tied the game on Luke Miller’s sacrifice fly. Bonebrake got into scoring position with his second steal of the game.

Paisley's seventh-inning single was just the second hit of the game for Highland. Trevor McFarland also had a single in the first.

“It was a great team effort,” Milledge said. “Good defense and pitching and we found a way to do enough offensively and on the base paths to win the game.”
