Huskies, still looking for first win, end the year with a loss to Winfield-Mt Union

Up against the second placed team in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference Highland was unable to contain their opponents steller offense and ended up adding to their loss column against Winfield-Mt Union, 69-34, on December 20.

Still seeking their first victory for the season the Huskies played good enough defense in the first half to keep the score within striking distance for a potential comeback, going into halftime trailing by 12 points.

But it was the second half where Winfield-Mt Union poured on the points. Scoring 24 in the third quarter and 22 in the fourth quarter.

The leading scorer for the Wolves was senior Andrew Brown with 17 points. Brown also had three steals and made five of his shots beyond the three point arc.

The Huskies, scoring 23 points in the second half, shot better after halftime unfortunately so did the Wolves. 23 was also the number of points Winfield-Mt Union scored in the first half and they managed to surpass that point total in the third quarter alone.

This was the last game of the year for Highland and they hope the new year comes with a fresh slate. With this loss the Huskies now have a conference record of 0-6.

Highland and all other teams will be taking a break in play for the holidays.

After the break Highland (0-7) will be on the road when they face off against the English Valleys Bears (1-8), on January 5.

Then there will be another road trip for the Huskies when they head to Packwood to challenge conference opponent Pekin (3-5) on January 9.
