Highland sophomore Sarah Burton, who tied a school record for home runs and was among the state’s leaders in stolen bases this summer, was named to the Class 1A All-State Team for the second straight year.
Also making the Iowa Girls Coaches Association All-State Team were Highland sophomore first baseman Payton Brun and Lone Tree senior Arlie Lorack.
Burton led Highland starters with a .465 batting average and hit 6 home runs, tying a single-season school record. Burton, a state qualifier in the 100-yard dash, also had 37 stolen bases and was caught stealing just once. She ranked No. 2 in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference North in both home runs and stolen bases.
She was a Second-Team All-State selection this year after being named Honorable Mention her freshman season in 2021.
Brun, who hit .420 and had a team-high 25 RBIs, was named to the All-State Third Team. She scored 31 runs and was 11-for-11 in stolen bases.
Lorack, an Honorable Mention selection, led Lone Tree in hitting and pitching. She won 11 games and struck out 120 as a pitcher, and hit .471 with a team-high 30 RBIs. Her final home run at home in a tournament game slammed into the scoreboard and knocked out the power.
