IOWA CITY
Danielle Hostetler, a Mid-Prairie sophomore, quickly established a substantial lead on the rest of the field in the River Valley Conference championship meet on Tuesday at the Iowa City Kickers Complex.

Just like last year.
For the second consecutive year, the Golden Hawks swept the first three spots in the girls race, and in the same order as last year’s championship race in Monticello. Hostetler, the defending individual Class 2A champion, won the race with a time of 19:21.53.
Following Hostetler were Sydney Yoder with a time of 20:31 and Jaden finishing 15 seconds behind Sydney.
Mid-Prairie had five of the top six finishers to win the team title with 17 points, which was just 2 points off a perfect score. Aaron Fleming, Mid-Prairie assistant coach, believes it to be a conference meet record.
The Golden Hawks scored a perfect 15 points in their 1-2-3-4-5-6 sweep at the Clear Creek Amana Clipper Classic earlier this season at the Kickers Complex.
Mitzi Evans delivered her second consecutive fifth-place finish and Abby Fleming was sixth.
Emma Althoff, a junior at Monticello, interrupted Mid-Prairie’s line of order by finishing fourth.
Phoebe Shetler, a sophomore who was on last year’s state championship team, finished ninth. Annika Poll, another sophomore, finished 19th to grab the seventh and final spot on the top-ranked Mid-Prairie squad that will run in the state qualifier on October 21 in Williamsburg. The Golden Hawks are seeking their fifth consecutive 2A state title, which would tie an all-time state record.
Mid-Prairie’s boys team captured a second-place conference finish behind Tipton with senior Thaddeus Shetler leading the way with a fifth-place finish in 17:50.
Five Golden Hawks finished among the top 23. Following Shetler were freshman Emmett Swartzentruber in 16th place, senior Chandler Hershberger in 18th place, junior Nathan Wallington in 21st place and freshman Preston Yutzy in 23rd place.
Those five, plus freshman Jayse Yoder (27th place), and Sam Yoder (45th place) or Robert Nagy, will compete in the state qualifier. Nagy did not run Tuesday, meaning head coach Mark Hostetler will choose between Nagy and Sam Yoder for the final varsity spot.
Payton Griebel, a Bellevue sophomore, won the race with a time of 17:25.07. Tipton runners captured five of the next eight spots to win the team title.
