SOLON
Mid-Prairie’s top-ranked baseball team just didn’t want to let go of its historic winning streak.
Trailing Solon, a Class 3A team, by four runs entering the final inning of a nonconference game Tuesday, the Golden Hawks scored four times to force a 6-6 tie. But in the bottom half of the inning, an infield error led to Solon’s walk-off 7-6 victory.
The loss was the first in 10 games for Mid-Prairie, which is ranked No. 1 in Class 2A. The Golden Hawks’ nine-game winning streak was the longest run of victories in at least 14 years.
Mid-Prairie junior Karson Grout had three hits, including a single in the seventh inning. Camron Pickard, Cain Brown, Brady Weber and Brock Harland all had hits in that inning. Weber drove in Grout with a double for the fifth run and Weber scored the tying run on a single down the left-field line by Harland.
Weber and Alex Bean each had two hits for the Golden Hawks (11-3).
Mid-Prairie hosts Wilton at 7 p.m. Thursday, then go to North Scott on Saturday for the Lancer Baseball Invitational.
