Dawson Reese Stutzman was born Nov. 27, 2004, in Hibbing, Minnesota. He attended Mid-Prairie. Dawson enjoyed getting read to, art, music, interacting with other children and being outdoors.
Dawson passed away on Saturday, Jan. 22, 2022, at his home after a lengthy courageous battle with Infantile Batten Disease in the loving arms of his mom at the age of 17.
He is survived by his parents: Rosanna and Jerry Shirkey; a brother: Jagger; a sister: Isla, all of Washington; his grandparents: Leon and Jean Stutzman of Kalona and Donna Shirkey of Wellman; his godmother (his second mommy): Rachel Kongshaug; along with numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandpa: Dan Shirkey; and a cousin: Isaiah Crew.
Celebration of life service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2022, at the Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona. Visitation will be from 10-1 at the funeral home.
