The city of Wellman once again has huge plans for their 4th of July celebration with tons of fun activities planned.

In the morning, the Kiddie Parade will start off at 9:30 a.m. immediately being followed by the main parade at 10 a.m. After that, there will be several different activities offered in the park: Inflatable slides, pony rides, barrel rides and a lot more. There will also be a handful of vendors in the park, offering food and drinks to the public. Flaming flips, Kona Ice, and Best of Iowa Cupcakes are just a few of the vendors that will be there.

Alongside all the activities being held in the park, the Wellman Library is doing a fundraiser this year called “Dino Adventure” where there will be live action dinosaurs roaming around the YMCA banquet hall for everyone to meet and interact with.

Live Music will be provided from 6 p.m. until dusk in the bandshell, and it will end right before the fireworks display is set to go off. The fireworks display will be shot off by the Richmond Shooters and it will be the same kind of fireworks from years past and last around an hour and a half.

President of the Wellman Community Chest and Kalona City Clerk, Heather Trimpe, grew up in Wellman and remembers sitting in the park and enjoying her 4th of July celebrations when she was young. She joined the board to help plan Wellman’s 4th of July in 2020, but of course they skipped a year due to covid. Now, Trimpe couldn’t be more excited about the 2022 Wellman 4th of July.

“I’m so incredibly blessed with the community we live in, so I’m excited for that. I’m excited to bring it back up, get everybody out and get it back into the swing of things. So that’s what I’m excited about,” Trimpe said.
