Starting September 1, the Kalona Area Chamber of Commerce ByWays Tours will be offering specialty rides that include a horse-drawn buggy ride driven by an Amishman, Kalona Chamber director Tonia Poole announced this week.
The two-hour specialty Rides will be offered every Wednesday at 11 a.m. during September. Riders will get on the ByWays bus at the Chamber office and travel to the Stringtown Buggy Shop on 540th Street where they will have an opportunity for a 10-to-15-minute buggy ride and to tour the buggy shop. Bus capacity is 12 and up to three people at a time can ride on the buggy, according to Poole.
The ByWays bus will then take riders through the countryside north of Kalona with stops taking you behind the scenes in the woodshop at JK Creative Woods and to Creekside E-bikes where Victor Yoder will show you how he got started servicing and selling e-bikes for the Amish and general public.
“Between stops your tour guide will share the history of the Amish and Mennonite Community and how they bless this community to this day,” said Poole.
Reservations can be made by stopping by the Chamber office at 514 B Avenue or by calling Tonia Poole or Krista Hershberger at 319-656-2660. Tickets for the buggy rides are $30 for adults and $15 for youth.
Poole said the Chamber is pleased to be offering the buggy rides.
“Visitors stop by the Kalona Chamber Visitors Center daily frequently asking: “Do you offer buggy rides?’” she said. “Finally, we can say Yes.”
