Brynn Younge of Wellman won the 2021 Iowa State Fair 4-H Market Hog Show. This was a record-breaking year for Iowa 4-H with over 840 market hogs competing for this championship. Younge is a member of the Limecreek Livewires 4-H club in Washington County.
The prize-winning animal was purchased for $33,500 by the following organizations and individuals: Hy-Vee, Hanor/Crown Prairie, Phibro with support from Blake Hershberger Enterprises, Holmes Livestock Logistics, Kalona Tire, Sinclair Tractor, Brinning Genetics, Evans Show Stock, SE Iowa Insurance, Veterinary Medical Center, Schlapkohl Veterinary Services, Reicks View Farms, Gingerich Well & Pump Service, Vision Ag/DeKalb, Hills Bank, Vittetoe’s Inc., Joe & Shelly Gardner, Brandon & Kayla Freel, Garman Show Supply, Holtkamp Farms, Keoco Auction Company LLC, Pro Grower Solutions-Terry Erb, Michael & Sarah Huston, Wellman Sons of American Legion, EBY Trailers, Tim & Michelle Meyer, Wellman Produce, Eric & Paula Greiner, Swine Genetics International, Zoetis, Tiger Country Realty, Agri-Way Partners LLC, Lyle Insurance Agency, Roger & Kathy Brinning, Tim Messenger/TRM and Welton Seed House.
A total of 16 livestock champions were sold for a sale total of $443,500 this year. Over $184,350 in scholarships were presented to 98 youth active in the livestock and agricultural industry, while $23,150 was presented to 72 Performance and Carcass Award winners at this year’s prestigious event.
Younge was honored to participate in the Iowa State Fair Sale of Champions on behalf of the Iowa Foundation for Agricultural Advancement. The IFAA is a non-profit organization comprised of agricultural enthusiasts dedicated to encouraging 4-H and FFA livestock, poultry and agriculture project members to pursue ag-related careers.
Since 1988, more than $9,643,725 has been generated for 2,466 Winner’s Circle Scholarships, 1,703 Performance and Carcass Awards and 456 Sale of Champions livestock exhibitors.
