Southeast Iowa will be well represented at the 2025 Future Problem Solving International Competition this week, June 4 – 8, at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana.

To qualify, students placed first or second at the state level, solving a specific situation regarding Nanotechnology. The topic for international competition will be The Future of History, preserving history accurately for future generations. Champions from thirty states and twelve countries will be participating.

Area home schooled participants are a junior division team of Jeremiah Hay, Josiah Hay, Zachariah Hay, and Michael Newton; a middle division team consisting of Elizabeth Snyder, Hanna Fritz, Lily Newton, and Miriam McDonald; and a senior division team with members Ella Chiang, Carl Gustafson, Maeve Diller, and Ben Lothamer.

Maverick Diller, as an alternate, will join senior division problem solvers from other states or countries to complete the 2-hour written competition. Artie Wirth, a senior, will be competing in the FPS storytelling competition.

Other homeschooled teams and individuals who meet in Iowa City also qualified.

After the written competition, all teams participate in the Presentation of Action Plan competition to demonstrate the team’s best solution idea.

The Future Problem Solvers are coached by Paula Lawson-Moore.
