It was a homecoming of sorts when Lone Tree alumni Chloe Doessel paid a visit to Lone Tree School on December 21. Doessel’s visit was via zoom, and she spoke to elementary students in multiple classrooms about a book she and her husband wrote.
Originally planned to be an in-person appearance at the school, this event was changed to a Zoom meeting to not take any chances with traveling in potentially hazardous weather conditions.
The book, named The ABCs of Architecture, is an easy-to-read children’s book, a rhyming picture-filled book that has the intention of teaching kids about the alphabet and architecture. Featuring 26 different buildings all representing a letter of the alphabet, this book is a quick and informational read.
“Me and my husband worked together and created a fun and educational book about the different types and elements of architecture,” Doessel said over Zoom to multiple elementary classes in Lone Tree. “We wrote the rhymes and designed the book together, but my husband did the illustrations.”
No appearance from an author is ever complete without a live reading of their literature. Doessel was more than happy to read her book to the students and show them all the different illustrations on each page.
“We were inspired to write this book by our kids; my son is five and my daughter is two. They are learning their shapes, letters, words, and colors and we wanted to put our love of architecture and their love of learning together,” Doessel said.
When she finished reading, Doessel asked the classrooms filled with elementary students what their favorite letter of the book was, and going off the eager responses, it was evident this book had the potential to be a favorite among the young ones.
