Alta Jane Yoder was born July 24, 1939, in rural Kalona, Iowa, the daughter of Lloyd and Clarissa (Hochstedler) Yoder. She attended East Lincoln School. In her youth she accepted Christ, she is a member of New Hope Mennonite Church in Washington.
Alta died at her home in Kalona following a long illness with Parkinson’s on Monday, Dec. 26, 2022, at the age of 83 years.
Alta is survived by a brother: Willis and wife Wilma Yoder of Kalona; 12 nieces and nephews; and a number of great-nieces and nephews.
Preceding Alta in death were her parents; brothers: Ernest Yoder and infant Glen Dale Yoder; sisters: Pauline Yoder, Susan Yoder, infant Anna Marie, Velma Yoder and Iva Yoder who died in early childhood; and a sister-in-law: Esther Yoder.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Dec. 29, 2022, at Sharon Bethel Church near Kalona. Burial was in Sharon Bethel Cemetery. Yoder-Powell Funeral Home is caring for Alta and her family. Messages and tributes may be directed to www.powellfuneralhomes.com
