A thank you to everyone who helped with the 4th of July celebration in Wellman

Last week the City of Wellman held our annual 4th of July celebration with a parade in the morning, activities at the park all afternoon and a band and fireworks in the evening.

I would like to thank the Community Club for all the planning and fundraising that happens to make this day possible every year.  Our celebration could not happen without the financial support of the sponsors, including the City of Wellman and the City of Kalona.

I need to thank our City employees also for going above and beyond with all of their time and efforts to get the City prepared for the 4th and the time it takes to clean up afterwards.

This year we were down a few entrants in the parade due to the weather, but we still had around 75 entrants and I appreciate all of those people who were able to participate.  I am told the entire parade route was lined with people watching.

The Wellman-Scofield Public Library had an amazing dinosaur exhibit inside of Parkside.  They said they had around 1,000 people of all ages participate in their activities.  It was very well done, and the kids really enjoyed it.  Everyone involved in making that happen deserves a lot of credit!

I want to thank the Richmond Shooters for stepping up and handling the fireworks display for us this year.  They did a great job with the fireworks!

The biggest thank you needs to go out to all the volunteers who helped at all the events throughout the day!  Without a big group of people giving up their time and efforts, on a holiday, simply for the joy of serving others in our community, none of that would have been possible.

I hope everyone enjoyed the day and will be back again next year to celebrate with us!
