Sandy Schweitzer presents her quilt “Woman Weeping for Murdered Children, Chicago, 1993” during the Iowa Illinois Quilt Study at the Kalona Historical Village on Saturday, April 2. Schweitzer made the quilt in 1997. The back of the quilt reads “This quilt was made for the memory of the 61 children who were murdered in the Chicago area in 1993. Special thanks to Beth Schweitzer for the moral support she gave and to Murphy, a black and white cat who rolled on this quilt at any opportunity he had, for the gift of hair and comfort.”
