MUSCATINE
When Mid-Prairie’s girls teed it up Friday in the first round of the Class 2A postseason tournament at Kalona Golf Course, the battle lines just seemed so familiar.
The same thing will happen next week in a 2A Regional in West Liberty.
Mid-Prairie and Tipton.
Tipton and Mid-Prairie.
Last week in Muscatine, Tipton struck first with a 13-shot win in the River Valley Conference championship tournament to halt the Golden Hawks’ title streak in the league at two years.
Tipton’s Paycee Sorgenfrey and Sydney Stutzel finished one-two, but three Golden Hawks, led by Morgyn Bender, finished in the top six.
Bender posted a 93 last Wednesday at the Muscatine Municipal Golf Course, finishing 8 strokes behind Sorgenfrey, and Addison English and Olivia Swartzendruber each posted 97 to tie for sixth place. All three Golden Hawks were named All-Conference First Team.
“Back to back (titles) is good, but three would have been tough,” McArtor said. “To come in second is awesome. The kids really fought hard today. Everybody had one or two battles. They worked through it and they didn’t give up and they saved every shot they could.
“And then to have three kids on the All-Conference team is great, too. When you’ve got half your varsity squad doing that, it’s a pretty neat accomplishment.”
Lilly Miller, a senior, shot a 102 to earn All-Conference Honorable Mention.
Delani Blum posted a 117.
In addition to Mid-Prairie and Tipton, Friday’s 5B Regional will include Regina Catholic, West Branch, West Liberty, Wilton, Mediapolis and Central Lee.
“For the most part,” McArtor said, “we’ve going to see all these schools.”
The top two teams will advance to the Region 5 Final on May 21 in West Liberty. If host Mid-Prairie is one of the top two, then three teams will advance.
The top two teams at the Regional Final go to the 2A state championship meet, May 29 and 30 at Fox Ridge Golf Course in Dike.

Durant 209
Golden Hawks senior Addison English scored a 46 Monday, finishing as runner-up medalist, in a 17-stroke win over Durant at the Kalona Golf Course.
Lilly Miller posted a 47, Morgyn Bender had a 48, Olivia Swartzendruber had a 51, Paiton Chittick had a 56 and Delani Blum had a 57.
“Great way to end the regular season and start working on getting ready for Regionals on Friday,” McArtor said. “If the girls do the same thing come Friday, they’ll be fine and hopefully they’ll play even better. We just need to get off to a better start than we have been. Even with the good scores, too many times we’re digging a hole early in the round and then working too hard to get back on track in the middle of the round. Just a mindset change that we need to work on and I’m confident we’ll get there.”
Alena Snider’s 51 in the JV match led Mid-Prairie to a team score of 231. Drea McCain posted a 56, Gracie Peiffer had a 60, Annette Witthoft posted a 61, Ariel Kaufman had a 63, Addy Kron had a 64 and Laurin Fay had a 65.
“This was the last competition for them and they have continued to gain confidence and made great progress all season,” McArtor said. “All have worked extremely hard on their game this year and from where they started the season they should really be proud of themselves.”
