Wellman speed bump working

The speed bump is working on Seventh Avenue in Wellman.

The city recently installed a speed bump at the intersection of Seventh Avenue where it becomes Circle Drive after numerous complaints of people running the stop sign.

“It’s working,” Council member Bob Goodrich said. “The speed bump is doing its job, because I can tell you, nobody is going through there fast. I just hope this time they leave it in.”

Council member Shannon McCain agreed that the speed bump has been effective.

“I do like the speed bump at the stop sign,” McCain said. “It’s not a huge one like we used to have down the road that was there, and you have to stop at the stop sign regardless. It’s slowing down people when kids are coming through there.”

Council members acknowledged that there have been complaints about the speed bump.

“I know they’re upset about that, and I get that,” City Administrator Kelly Litwiller said.

“We did that speed bump where we did, and we did it for a good reason to make sure we’re slowing people down at the time frame when kids are getting out of school,” McCain said. “We’ll give it some time to see how it works.”
