Wellman council approves temporary furlough for skating rink employee

Posted

In its regular meeting on Monday, Dec. 7, the Wellman City Council approved a temporary layoff/furlough for city employee Teresa Lampe, who runs the skating rink. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the skating rink is not currently open.

The temporary status will be in effect from Dec. 12 until April 1, 2021, with the option of returning sooner if the city wishes to bring Lampe back. During this time, her insurance will be paid following city procedures as usual. Lampe has operated the skate rink and worked in the parks during the off season for 16 years.

In other business, the council expressed approval for working with other cities within Washington County to add another sheriff’s deputy. The possible addition would increase the amount the city pays for the Law Enforcement Agreement but specific figures have not yet been provided.

The council also approved changes to the employee handbook and approved a resolution allowing the city clerk to transfer annual debt payment funds.
