Washington County Fair begins Sunday

It’s that time of year again.

The Washington County Fair gets underway on Sunday and runs through Friday, July 19.

The fair kicks off with a truck and ATV mud drag at 1 p.m., Sunday. 

Sunday’s highlight is the Washington County Fair Queen contest at 7 p.m. in the Washington Community Center, where seven contestants will vie to succeed 2018 Fair Queen Katie Palmer.

This year’s grandstand entertainment features a sanctioned truck and tractor pull at 7 p.m., Monday; the Grand River Rodeo at 7 p.m., Tuesday; a demolition derby at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday; and a motocross and fireworks show at 7 p.m., Friday.

Central Empire Semi-Pro Wrestling will put on a show outside of Dallmeyer Hall at 7 p.m., Thursday.

One of the biggest attractions of the fair is the 4-H and FFA livestock shows. The show schedule includes:

• Monday, July 15: Livestock judging contest, 12:30 p.m.; goat show, 3:30 p.m.; dog agility show, 6 p.m.

• Tuesday, July 16: Sheep show, 8 a.m.; rabbit show, 9 a.m.; horse and pony show, 11 a.m.; pet show, 1:30 p.m.; dairy cattle show, 2 p.m.; breeding beef show, 4 p.m.; and poultry show, 5:30 p.m.

• Wednesday, July 17: Swine show, 8 a.m.; and bucket bottle calf show, 3 p.m.

• Thursday, July 18: Market beef show, 8 a.m.

• Friday, July 19: Livestock auction, 8:30 a.m.

There will be plenty of musical entertainment throughout the week as well.

The Aces and Eights Band performs at 5 p.m., Sunday. Van and the Movers performs at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday. Toaster performs at 7 p.m., Friday. All of these performances are on the Lions Stage.

Fun Services Carnival will have rides for the kids every day from 4-10 p.m. Wristbands for unlimited rides will be available for $20 each day.

Wednesday, rides also will be open from 10 a.m.-noon for Kids Day, where unlimited ride wristbands for the whole morning will be available for $10.

Admission to the fair is $10 per day. Season passes are available for $25.
