Vote for PPEL on March 2

The Highland Community School District will be asking patrons to vote on Tuesday, March 2 to renew the Voted Physical Plant & Equipment Levy, or PPEL.  Every 10 years the patrons of the school district are asked to renew this levy. The rate of this levy could go as high as $1.34 per $1,000 of assessed value. The Highland School District will be asking for $1.00 as they have done in past votes.

Does this vote raise your tax rate? The answer is a resounding no. This vote does not raise your tax rate. This levy is already inside your $13.06 tax rate and has been for the last 10 years. This is not a new tax or something that will make your rate go higher. This vote is very important for all of the projects this money has done for the district over the years.

Highland has done a lot of wonderful projects with their PPEL money. It has paid for the renovations to the football field and the new track. It has paid for the bus barn and any new bus purchased. The new gym floor, the Green House, most of our technology, and our school boilers were also purchased with PPEL funds. We also have to pay for a new wastewater system on the secondary grounds. This project has been estimated at over $800,000. PPEL will pay for at least half of this project.

Highland Schools is asking for you to go vote on Tuesday, March 2 and continue the levy.  This is not something new for the district. Highland patrons have said yes many times before to this levy. This is a very important levy for our district to continue so we can provide the best facilities for our students. We want the best for our students academically.  This vote also makes sure our facilities are first rate as well for our students.

Thank you for your vote on Tuesday, March 2. Having the support of the community makes our school a better place to educate our students. Go Huskies!
