RIVERSIDE
The VFW Auxiliary to Post #6414 Riverside held their regular business meeting Thursday, November 2, 2023, 6:30 p.m. at the Post Home.
Prior to the meeting, Riverside Troop BSA 235 and Girl Scout Troop 9632 leaders and scouts were present to receive the National “Youth Supporting our Veterans” citations, donations and R.A.P. candy bars. Each shared their future projects for veterans and community for the coming year. Photos were taken and Troops were thanked for their attendance.
The meeting started at 6:40 p.m. with Auxiliary President Ruth Rencher presiding and seven members present. Secretary minutes were read and approved; the Treasurer’s Report was read and filed subject to audit.
A “Buddy” Poppy campaign was held at the Post Home, Friday, Oct. 27, with all donations designated to the Auxiliary Relief Fund, which supports projects that aid veterans and their families. Our sincere thank you to all who donated.
Unfinished Business: The Charter was draped in remembrance of an auxiliary member and a new Life Membership was accepted. The VFW Color Guard with Auxiliary Color Bearers will post and retire the Colors at the 4th and 5th grade Veterans Day Concert, Monday, November 6 at the Highland Elementary Center. The VFW Color Guard and Auxiliary Color Bearers will also participate in the Veterans Day Services hosted by the City of Riverside, Saturday, Nov. 11.
New Business: The Soldiers Care Package, an ongoing Veterans and Family Support project, for the month of January will be mailed by Tina Thomann. The annual collection of comfort items for hospitalized veterans at VFW #6414 Post Home will begin Sunday, Nov. 5, and continue through Thursday, Dec. 7. President Ruth Rencher will set up the table and have a list of items to donate available. New Christmas cards can be brought to the December Auxiliary meeting to be signed by members. The cards are mailed to the Iowa Veterans Home, Marshalltown.
A donation will be made to the National VFW Auxiliary Cancer Aid and Research Fund which maintains the Cancer Grant available to all Auxiliary members. A donation is also being made to the VFW National Home Health and Happiness, an annual commitment to benefit the families at the VFW National Home, Eaton Rapids, Michigan.
The annual potluck dinner planned for Dec. 7, will start at 6 p.m. Pizza will be provided. All members are welcome and encouraged to attend.
