Four goals. One assist. A 5-1 win. Mid-Prairie senior, Owen Trimpe, put the Golden Hawks on his back in a dominating performance for the big road win against the Anamosa Blue Raiders. He could have scored more.

“Owen’s just being a leader out there, working hard to beat new setbacks,” Mid-Prairie head coach Wyatt Cady said. “He was just on. You know he’ll get shots on goal every game. Question is if the goalie is going to be in position. Today, [Owen] did a good job. He picked his head up and found the corner goal.”

Trimpe’s last hat trick came in his sophomore year against the Columbus Wildcats on April 26, 2021, in a 6-2 win. In his sophomore year, he scored three hat tricks, yet never reached 4 goals, making this game a career one for Trimpe in both goals and points.

Before Trimpe’s opening goal 20 minutes in, he had a breakaway chance that saw his shot veer off path and bounce off the post, the Anamosa goalie’s best friend.

With 11 minutes left in the first half, the Blue Raiders tied things at one. It looked like a competitive game was on the horizon.

Anamosa gifted Mid-Prairie with another breakaway Trimpe chance which he converted with four minutes to go, giving Mid-Prairie breathing room at halftime. This was Trimpe’s first multi-goal game since May 9, 2022, in a 12-0 romp against the Sigourney Savages.

Just over five minutes into the second half Trimpe scored his third, the first hat trick of the year for the Hawks.

Ten minutes later Trimpe found junior Tucker Miller, streaking to the net. Trimpe made a superb pass, hitting Miller in stride, watching as Miller buried the perfect pass. Miller also managed two assists, three points on the night, second for the team.

With 12 minutes left, Trimpe notched his fourth and final goal of the night to reach the 5-1 finale.

If Trimpe was the number one star of this game, and Miller was second, it could be argued that junior Drake Price was third. Price was right alongside Trimpe all night, fighting for possession and notching an assist on the second Trimpe goal.

In the second half, the ice-rain commenced. It made playing conditions tougher overall for both teams, yet Cady believes it helped the Hawks.

“I think the kid’s like [the rain]. It’s a little harder to judge where the ball is going, that kind of opens up the long ball, makes the defense not know where the ball is going to be,” Cady said. “It makes us a little less predictable in offense and that’s usually our biggest issue is that we’re too predictable.”

With this win, the Hawks battle back to .500 with a 4-4 record.
