Lone Tree had three of its five wrestlers take a place on the medals stand Saturday at the Southeast Iowa Super Conference tournament in the Lions’ gym.

Overall, the Lions finished 10th of the 12 teams in the conference, scoring 38 points.

Hunter Hain, wrestling at 160, and Tim Mills, wrestling at 220, won fourth-place medals. Will Hotz, at 170 pounds, took home a fifth-place medal.

“Hunter was ready to go that first match, and it showed,” coach Clint Jones said.

Hain recorded a pin just over a minute into the first period.

His next two rounds were more difficult, and Hain was pinned in the battle for the bronze medal.

Hotz in his first match wasted little time in pinning Blake Juhl from Pekin, who he faced again in the consolation finals, pinning Juhl in less than 30 seconds.

Tim Mills in the 220-pound division scored a fall in his first round but then faced a tough opponent in Mason Juhl from Pekin in the second round.

Mills and Juhl were scoreless at the end of the first period, but Juhl pinned Mills in the second period.

In the consolation semi-finals, Mills pinned Spencer Kessel in the second period.

In the battle for third, Jaxon Allen of New London pinned Mills in the third period.

Jones added that Mills will learn from his losses and take those lessons to the sectional tournament on Saturday.

Matt Hemsted started off the day for Lone Tree, losing his only match in overtime in the 138-pound competition.

Caden Smith, wrestling at 145 pounds, started with a pin over a Cardinal opponent, but faced a tough match in the quarter finals.

Lone Tree wrestles in the sectional tournament at West Branch on Saturday.
