Susan Miller Simon, artist, wife, mother, friend, of Frisco, Colo., died on August 28, 2020, at home with her beloved family. She was born Aug. 11, 1949, in Wellman, Iowa, the youngest daughter of Dr. Jay and LaVera Miller. On March 10, 1984, she married concert pianist Peter Simon in Iowa City.

Susan received a BA in Art from Webster College in St. Louis, Mo., and an MM and MFA from the University of Iowa in printmaking. She produced works in many media, including etching, clay, beads, paper sculpture, drawing, and painting. She was primarily represented by the Nina Liu Gallery in Charleston, S.C. Over the years, she mounted 25 one-woman shows and participated in many group shows in the U.S. and internationally, winning several “Best of Show” awards.

Besides her many friends and family, Susan loved nature. Her paintings are full of magic, playfulness, optimism and all living things getting along in harmony. She loved adventure travel: hiking the Inca Trail, canoeing the Amazon, swimming with whale sharks in Mexico, and many other adventures.

She is survived by her husband: Peter; daughter and son-in-law: Chloe and Nick Lukich of Broomfield, Colo.; son: Saling Simon of Boulder, Colo.; brother: Jay Miller of Santa Barbara, Calif.; sisters: MaryAnn Miller Greiner of Wellman, and Cheryl Miller Powers of Iowa City; brother: Dr. Dennis Miller of Wellman; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents: Dr. Jay and LaVera Miller; and her brother-in-law: Will Powers.

A private service will be held at the Frisco Cemetery.

The family asks that donations be sent in her honor to the Denver Hospice, 8299 E. Lowry Boulevard, Denver, CO 80230.
