On Saturday, April 24, recent graduate from Highland High School Sexton suffered an accident that caused him to lose two fingers on his right hand and vision in his left eye. On Saturday, May 15 a benefit was held for Sexton at the Riverside VFW, featuring a meal for a free-will donation, a raffle and other means of fundraising.
“We are truly humbled by the love and support that the community has shown my family,” said Sexton’s aunt, Crystal Schwandt. “While we can never repay the generosity, we will pay it forward as we can, and we always will.”
Sexton has had three surgeries with more on the horizon, depending on the rate of his healing.
The family has set up an account at Peoples Trust and Savings Bank in Riverside where anyone can donate toward Sexton’s medical expenses by referencing the Ashton Sexton benefit. Donors can also contact Schwandt at 319-389-6715 or Amanda Kron at 319-461-9969 with questions about how to donate.
